I found this in my inbox this afternoon. It is sound advice. Lou won’t take it. Lou will not do anything unless he can take credit for it.
Greco: Give the mayors a seat at the table in dealing with budget crisis
Millville – Cumberland County Republican Chairman Robert “Bob” Greco called on Lou Magazzu to put partisan politics aside and quickly get his act together in dealing with the budget crisis.
“Facing up to an $8 million dollar budget deficit it’s time for Lou Magazzu to put partisan politics aside and do what is right for the taxpayers of Cumberland County,” Cumberland County GOP Chairman Bob Greco said. “A good start in dealing with the budget crisis would be to invite the mayors of the municipalities within the county to form a task force to conduct a bottom up review of County finances to identify waste and inefficiencies in every County run department and agency.”
“During these tough economic times it is the mayors of the various municipalities who are on the frontlines of the battle to close budget deficits,” Greco continued. “They should be offered a seat at the table now, before it’s too late.”
“Up against a difficult economy many of our mayors have managed to do the impossible,” Greco added. “For example, in non-partisan Bridgeton, Mayor Begley was faced with the need for a new municipal court and police station. His predecessor estimated the cost to be $8 million dollars, but Mayor Begley instead rehabilitated a building and saved the taxpayers $4.5 million.”
“That is the kind of vision and leadership Lou Magazzu should have at the table,” Greco said. “I realize that after a tough election season Lou Magazzu might be a little gun shy but the fact is we are all in this together and he needs to use every resource available to do what is right for Cumberland County’s families. I hope he accepts the help before it’s too late.”
