Our fans might remember an article that was posted on the Watch on July 3, 2009 regarding Lou’s hiring of a Florio flunky, Lou Cappelli Jr., as attorney for the Cumberland County Planning board. We wondered why Lou would be so quick to flush county tax money to the sewer that is Camden rather than hire one of the five qualified Cumberland County attorneys that applied for the job?
Lou publicly stated that Cumberland County needed this lawyer that worked for the corrupt Norcross machine because he would be unlikely to be sued. Hah! That shows how little Lou knows about politics – or possibly how much. He probably figured that the public would forget about that lie the way they forget about all of his other lies. But good thing for Lou that I don’t forget.
There was an interesting article in today’s Daily Journal. Since the article didn’t directly reflect negatively on Lou, the editors allowed it to slip into print. In short – the lawyer that would not get sued – is being sued!
Union leaders for Camden County’s corrections officers filed a defamation lawsuit Tuesday against top county officials, saying they were publicly accused last week of participating in criminal activity.
The suit against Camden County Freeholder-Director Louis Cappelli Jr. and county administrator Ross Angilella claims the two accused corrections officers of criminal acts, harassment and attempted intimidation without any basis. The suit, filed in Superior Court, seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages for comments it says amounted to libel, slander and defamation.
I, for one, am thrilled that Cumberland County has an attorney of such outstanding character that the planning board is safe from lawsuits.
