Vine St. School: Jobs for Camden and Gloucester County Union Members

This was in our mailbox:

Nelson Thompson surprised the freeholders (well, a few of them) by asking them to vote on a package of criteria for the Vine Street School renovations that would result in anyone other than union workers not being eligible to do the work.  To their credit, Tom Sheppard and Jim Dunkins voted no (especially because no one received the details).  The result of the restrictions in the work will be increased cost to the taxpayers and less work going to county residents.  In addition, because the trade union membership does not reflect the diversity of our county,  minorities will have less opportunity to work on the project.  So, while we watch union members from Gloucester and Camden County reaping the benefits of our tax dollars, our unemployment rate continues to rise.
