Poll? Or slanderous propaganda? You decide…

I just received this email anonymously, and thought I would share it. Lou’s propaganda machine is running, and Pepitone and Thompson should be ashamed of allowing this filth to be perpetrated on county voters. Joe and Nelson, if you admit to reading this, you need to come out publicly and #1 – publicly excoriate Jannarone and Lou for that tasteless stunt that was disguised as a “press conference” last week; and #2 publicly apologize for this insidious crap that you are violating people’s homes with in the form of a “poll”.

Thought that I would send this to you as an FYI.

I received a very interesting phone call today. Caller ID indicated that the call was coming from Florida and the caller stated that she was taking a political survey involving the Cumberland County area.

She asked if I supported several candidates, mispronouncing several names in the process. It struck me as strange that the first name was Jen Jennaroni (her pronunciation), it was strange to me since to my knowledge she is not currently running for any position.

She proceeded to ask if I supported Nelson "Thomas", Joe "Pippitoni", Carl "Kristen", Sam Fiocchi, and Stephen Sweeney.

I was asked if I was Democrat, Republican or Independent.

It was obvious that the "survey" was financed by the Democrats since she then asked my opinion on statements made by Thompson and Pepitone. The statements concerned the Veteran's Chapel, the dedication of Pepitone and Thompson in cutting taxes and holding the budget by regretfully laying off 40 county workers.

As for the Republicans she asked me if I was concerned that Carl Kirstein, as Mayor of Upper Deerfield, abolished the police department which placed a strain on the State Police, and that the taxpayers in Upper Deerfield do not pay money to finance the State Police.

She also asked me if I was offended that Carl Kirstein used his position to extend water or sewer (I don't recall which service she cited) lines to his property, at a cost of a million dollars to the taxpayers.

She then went after Bob "Gerko" (her pronunciation. She asked me if I was concerned that Mr. Greco had been charged (she may have also said convicted) of Aggravated Assault when he attacked his wife with a aluminum broom handle and threatened her by pointing a 12 gauge shotgun at her.

I do not agree that this was a survey, in my opinion it was more of a phone call supporting the Democrats and bragging about their accomplishments. Nothing positive was said about any Republican candidate and more importantly no question was asked that could have been interpreted as critical of the Democrats.

She also asked me if I was planning on supporting the Ds or the Rs on election day. She asked me this question at the beginning of the "survey", in the middle and again at the end. I would assume that this was done to determine if I had changed my mind about how I was going to vote.

By the way, when asked about my political preference I admitted readily that I am a registered Democrat who is voting straight Republican.

We received the same push poll. It was the same number from Florida that conducted last year’s push poll for the county dems. When asked about Mr. Greco hitting his wife with a broomstick, she added that Mr. Kirstein stated it was not a problem and asked if that made a difference. We are also registered Democrats who will be voting for Mr. Fiocchi and Mr. Kirstein in November. Mr. Greco is not running and whatever happened was a matter between he and his wife years ago. Quite frankly, we are sick of the behind the door machinations that go on behind closed doors at the County. When it is experienced directly, it is amazing and totally disheartening to see it happen to the detriment of this county. So, there is no surprise on our part at all by the phrasing and inuendoes put forth by this “push” poll.

Pure Lou. A vote for Nelson is a vote against Lou. Insiders know why.

  3. Calhoun says:

Interesting angle (“a vote for Nelson is a vote against Lou”) BGary. However, votes for the two Rs would be an even bigger vote against Lou. Everybody knows why.

  4. Guess-Who says:

Lou, Nelson, Joe & Jane along with Mayor Romano were in attendance for the soap box derby Oct 16th.

Romano stayed to open the event then skipped off to due Who knows WHAT. It was another EXAMPLE that the Photo Op is All that is Important to this Elected Official.

It was something to see with the Political Yard Signs that Lined 4th St (Soap Box Track) and these Freeholders walking around with their VOTE-4-ME T-shirts on.

Lou & the Crue was THINKING this is a way of taking advantage of the Event by using IT for Political Gain.
99.9% of the crowd that was in Attendance could care less about Lou Magazzu or Joe & Nelson or Jane as they paraded around the sidewalks of Vineland during the soap box races.
The Racer’s didn’t even NOTICE the QUORUM of Freeholders that Formed during the Races.

When IT was all said & done the Kids (Racer’s) come out the WINNERS & these Political Folks proved yet again they are the only LOSERS that Attended!

Did the R’s attend or make any comments about a private citizen stepping up to fund the event? It is election season and this is an example of how to work out the financial mess. It would be nice to hear from a candidate about an issue other than the petty bickering over each others’ moms.

  6. Calhoun says:

Here’s a bit more about the soapbox derby (see Guess-Who’s post above) from my team of reliable moles.

Lou climbed up on one of those soapboxes and started preaching. Probably something about shared services. Then Joe and knucklehead Nelson joined him up on the soapbox. And then the soapbox collapsed under the weight, causing its owner, a freckle-faced boy worthy of a Rockwell painting, to burst into tears. Joe felt bad and consoled the boy, while Lou and Nelson ignored the lad and got into a heated argument about whose big fat ass caused the soapbox to collapse; the argument ended with each calling the other a “liar”. Albert Kelly, showed up and promised to get the federal government to buy the boy a new soapbox and gave him a bunch of Tri-County forms to fill out to get the ball rolling. Jane later held a news conference and demanded that the chairman of the soapbox derby resign.

(Just having some fun here folks. Not saying that’s really what happened.)

  7. Bridgeton Gary says:

The question remains unanswered. (even though I liked the imaginary scenario)

  8. WuLi says:

B Gary – the question is superfluous, possibly why it hasn’t been answered. You craft an awkward attack on the R’s when the focus of this article was the scandalous “poll”. The poll was nothing more than a dirty political maneuver designed to avoid the issues and fling mud on the opposition.

It seems to me that the R’s have consistently been talking policy, and what they would do. The D’s under Lou resort to the same old tired dirt mongering. I have yet to hear Nelson or Joe address the issues such as doubling our taxes in the ten years of Lou’s tenure.

I have yet to see them address real issues such as benefits for part-timers – other than Joe is making sure that Lou and Jane can continue getting health benefits that a large portion of their constituency don’t have access to. But they are making the taxpayers pay for their free rides.

  9. jobba says:

I think the BGary coment was about the go kart event, not the nasty poll.

  10. ?????? says:

It would appear that the UAW has not endorsed Pepitone and Thompson this year. No signs for them at the UAW headquarters. Looks like change is in the wind.
