I received this press release today. It is interesting, and unexpected. The unions can usually be counted upon to fully support Lou’s team. I understand the unions are turning their backs on Thompson.
Even Riggin’s Oil on Main Road in Vineland doesn’t have D signs this election. Riggins ALWAYS has large signs – this year, nada. Has Lou lost all of his supporters, from die-hard D’s to labor? Here is the PR in full:
Freeholder Sheppard to hold roundtable discussion
“Getting Cumberland County Back to Work”
Roundtable discussion to bring together labor, management and industry
MILLVILLE – Cumberland County Freeholder Tom Sheppard, Republican freeholder candidates Sam Fiocchi and Carl Kirstein and Cumberland County Regular Republican Organization Chairman Bob Greco had a private lunch with Jonathan Young of the New jersey Regional Council of Carpenters and Robert Nedohon of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 351.
At the lunch the idea of a roundtable discussion to bring labor and business leaders together was discussed. Freeholder Sheppard will schedule such a discussion later in the year.
“We had an enlightening lunch,” Freeholder Tom Sheppard said. “We learned organized labor and Republicans aren’t far apart and, in fact, agree on most issues that are important to the residents of Cumberland County.”
“With input from Jonathan Young and Robert Nedohon I am confident we can put together a healthy discussion with organized labor and business leaders and come up with some great ways to get Cumberland County back to work,” Sheppard stated.
Council Representative Jonathan Young of the New Jersey Regional Council of Carpenters added, “I think a lot of folks would be surprised to hear a group of Republicans and members of organized labor met for lunch and agreed on many key issues, but it’s true. I will be honored to stand with Freeholder Sheppard and take part in a roundtable discussion to get Cumberland County back to work.”
Business Agent Robert Nedohon of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 351 said, “Our lunch definitely put to rest the idea that Republicans hate labor and labor hates Republicans, because both statements are definitely not true. The fact is they want what we want for Cumberland County and I truly look forward to working with Freeholder Sheppard to get this roundtable discussion together and getting Cumberland County back to work.”
