Cumberland GOP Chairman calls on Freeholders to resign

Republican Chairman says Freeholder Jannarone’s 2010 campaign lies and Freeholder Dunkins complacency during those lies should make them the first to go

MILLVILLE – As the controversy around Cumberland County Surrogate Doug Rainear’s promise breaking salary increase and request that the increase be retroactive to January 1, 2010 continues Cumberland County GOP Chairman Bob Greco has called on his running mates, Freeholders Whelan, Jannarone and Dunkins to resign from the Freeholder Board.

“As the 2010 campaign unfolded I had the misfortune of sitting back and watching the Democrats resort to name calling, character assassination and distortions of the truth,” Bob Greco said. “Freeholder Jannarone was front and center during all of this and Freeholders Whelan and Dunkins sat silently during these lies. Frankly, as a reverend, Mr. Dunkins should have known better.”

“These Freeholders should be ashamed of themselves for voting for this pay increase that was snuck into a last minute resolution on Thanksgiving Eve,” Greco continued. “While the breaking of the campaign promise is an insult to the residents of Cumberland County, it is doubly insulting that it comes on the heels of a campaign season filled with the nastiness the Democrats brought to the table.”

“I’m certain Reverend Dunkins preaches against the things he watched silently during the last campaign,” Greco added. “My mother taught me that silence during a lie is the same thing as a lie. He and Freeholder Jannarone should be the first to resign over this most recent controversy.”

“The public expects their elected officials to be held to a higher standard and they should,” Greco said. “These freeholders broke a serious campaign promise after taking the time to take local politics into the gutter. It is time for them to hold themselves to that higher standard, do the right thing and resign today.”

They will not resign unless their fearless leader, King Louie tells them to. They are his puppets and he pulls their strings.
