The following has been sent in by a long time fan of the website (edited with permission):
If Doug Rainear was successful in getting his raise, he and his brother Don would be raking in a QUARTER OF A MILLION dollars on the backs of Cumberland County taxpayers. Doug finally did the right thing, even if it took a grass roots campaign to force him to do so. Don never will do the right thing.
The older Rainear brother is pulling in $130,000 as head of the CCIA , an agency that he has no experience running. Notice there was no cut in his part time $130,000 salary. Every public employee in the county, in every city has been asked to take cuts. Not Don Rainear.
Don Rainear has now eliminated the two positions at the Authority that had skilled financial people. To make these cuts appear to be deeper than they really are; he eliminated a number of positions that existed in title only. These positions were not filled, hence no real cost savings. The savings will appear on paper only. It is a cheap accounting trick..
Notice also the elimination of funding for the Leadership Cumberland County program. Lou has been angry since he is the only person to ever have failed the course.
And finally – Great job by Big Don. While everyone else is New Jersey government is under a 2% cap, the CCIA raises their fees 5% to the taxpayers of Cumberland County. Nice, real nice
