Magazzu resigns

I suppose the most surprising news from last night’s Freeholder meeting  is that Lou Magazzu resigned his position as Freeholder director.

“Over the last seven months, I have been working as part of a team with an energy consulting business. We have opportunities all over the region and the nation but they require my attention and also some travel. I have tried to work for two masters of the directorship and my business, but do not believe I can continue to do so in 2011,” he told the board.

None of the other Democrat Freeholders seem interested in taking the position. I cannot imagine that the party would ever allow the minority party to hold that slot, it just isn’t feasible.

My first reaction to this news is “what does Lou have up his sleeves?”  But there have been rumblings from my friends in the Democratic party that there is a move afoot to oust him not only as Director but as Chair. Lou’s actions have allegedly led to Stephen Sweeney being fined $5,000 for illegal campaign contributions to Lou’s fake NACo PAC. Did Sweeney’s presence at last night’s meeting have anything to do ensuring that Lou step down?

What deals were made with Lou to ensure his quiet departure from local politics? Has his energy company been promised any deals? Time will tell, but it seems the focus of Magazzu Watch will have to change in the near future. Don’t worry, we will continue to bring you the latest news that the news doesn’t see fit to report.

How many ways can you say “good bye”?
Adieu, au revoir, bon voyage, auf Widersehen, hasta la vista, hasta luego, and CIAO.
    C’est la vie!

Hmm… it’s a shame he was doing a good job at consolidating his power. He has total control of the Prosecutor’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office, same. The Surrogate, ditto. CCUA, check. The Freeholders, done! I guess he may as well go out on top?

Rumor has it more of his own party is about fed up with his shenanigans. It did NOT have the support of the overwhelming majority of his fellow democratic freeholders to stay on as Director. Of course he had to go out patting himself on the back about what a great job he did!! Some BS about him being the “agent of change”, he sure was and almost ALL of it was change for the worst. Good riddance to this self serving BS’er who has cost not only the D’s their respect and elections, but has costs all the taxpayers of the County. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the Magazzu era of destruction.

Why would Lou step down? He has done a great job of running the County into the ground. Highest crime rate, poorest in the state and unemployment close to 20% in the western part of the County. Democrats and people from the County have been fooled for years by Lou and his lies. Sad to see him go, he made every other elected official look so good.

  5. GoGoCumCo says:

Correct me if I’m wrong…But all he did was decide to not be the “Director” of the board. He’s still a Freeloader, at least until the end of his term. So he’s not really going out on top of anything, he’s still in the thick of it. And of course…..he’s in total control.

Ahhh.. but the sheer embarassment of losing the title of Director must have Magazzu rethinking all his lies and shenanigans of the past may be catching up with him FINALLY! Those on the so called inside have said that he had NO support from his Democratic colleagues to stay on as Director. Guess even they have lost patience and faith in his so called leadership. Seems he led his party into a devastating defeat this last election cycle with his usual low down attack startegy that backfired on his candidates and cost his party dearly. Certainly the newly elected Republican freeholders were NOT going to support him. He may have had only 1 vote to remain as Director and of course that would have been HIS alone! Instead he “chickened out” and stepped down sparing himself the embarassment of certain defeat. But before stepping down he found it necessary to blow his own trumpet and put on a well choreographed farewell telling the world how great he has been for Cumberland. Even getting Sen. Sweeney to show up but depart quickly per newspaper accounts. Please just go away quietly. What’s next for Magazzu, maybe losing his sacred County Chairmainship? Perhaps that would be the right thing to do. Maybe some “decent good Democrats” would then return and feel some pride in their party and once again become proud of their former party. One could only hope and pray for such a miracle. But then again it is the season of miracles. Bye BYE Mags and thanks for nothing!

This song has Lyrics that just might have been what was SAID behind the SCENE:

  8. whatever says:

Will Magazzu quietly step down from his County Chairmanship? Seems many good Democrats are hoping so after all the damage he has done to his party particularly in this last election. His slash and burn style has cost the Dems many loyal party members and rumor has it that if he doesn’t step aside an ugly intra party revolution is looming on the horizon. Wonder if this ego maniac Magazzu will do the right thing and preserve the Democratic party in Cumberland. Sure there are many who can or would tell him where to go!

I pity the fool that takes the reigns(sp), with all of the behind the scenes string pulling Lou is sure to do.
