So far I have raised $1085 towards the $5000 retainer for my attorney. One fifth of the way there! I want to thank everyone that has supported this effort – freedom of speech should not be a right of only the independently wealthy.
The first of two auctions for original oil paintings ends tomorrow. The starting bid is $50. This is an 8″x10″ oil on gallery wrap canvas, signed and dated by the artist (me). Proceeds from this sale go towards my legal defense. If these two sales are successful, I will do another two next week.
There is a story to go with this painting. Liz and I were in New Orleans a few years ago. It was the last day of our stay, and out flight didn’t leave until 5Pm or so – so we had time to kill. Killing time can be a dangerous pastime in Naw’leans.
We found this bar that some friends told us about, The Erin Rose. It is just off of Bourbon Street, a nondescript hole-in-the-wall sort of place. It is a long narrow room with an old wood bar, and an evil bartender named Jack. Most of the patrons were locals. Many were bartenders and dancers that worked at other joints. That is the sign that you are in the right (wrong) place. The Erin Rose definitely not a tourist trap, but it should be a destination for any serious traveler!
Why would I call him evil? I mean that in the nicest way, of course! It seems the bartenders at the Erin Rose have a little contest between themselves. They do everything in their power to make their customers miss their flight! And Jack did his best with us. An afternoon stop for a few drinks prior to a leisurely final walk through the French Quarter became a drinking marathon! Every time we turned our heads, Jack refilled our beers. Next thing, we were doing shots. Long story short, we didn’t miss our flight. And by the time our connecting flight from Dallas landed in Philly, we were somewhat sober!
So there is the back story to this painting. It can be yours. Bid now! Thank you.
