Another death threat?

The following was delivered to my home today. It was left inside my mailbox – a federal crime. Mr. Bill Whelan and Mr. Doug Long, it is time for you to call off your dogs and put your own party in order. I am pursuing legal action, I will NOT allow the Cumberland county Democratic Organization to intimidate me!

Here are the facts. Senator Jeff Van Drew, Freeholder candidates Bill Whelan, Tony Surace and James Dunkins hired Marcus Wilson for their GOTV effort. This website reported on the manifold discrepancies in the ballot applications that were submitted by Mr. Wilson. We also reported in the inadequate reporting of Wilson’s fee by Jeff Van Drew, and commented that it could possibly cause that money not to be reported accurately as taxable income.

For this, Doug Long, chair of the Cumberland County Democratic Party, with the full blessing of Bill Whelan, sued the independent websites for reporting this information. Their civil lawsuit was dismissed by them, with prejudice.

Now, the person they employed, Marcus Wilson, apparently is bringing the dirtiest of Atlantic City politics to Cumberland County. Voter ballot fraud is nothing, now they deposit a letter in a mailbox in violation of federal law.  Doug Long has been silent, as has Whelan. Their silence speaks volumes – it simply proves to me that they know who is behind this rash of threats and intimidation, by by remaining silent, they condone these actions.

This is the BS that M.a.r.c.u.s. has on a Twitter Feed DAILY!!!

L{.}{.}K, there has to be a FEDERAL INVESTIGATION into this NOW that the Mail Box has been USED to Deposit this THREAT… The Post Master General has Investigators that ENJOY tracking down these type of Low-Life Scum that Resort to this kind of Behavior.

I try to be careful in my choice of words and this case will be no different. I have perused my library of notable quotes in literature and film and have come up with a measured response to those who left this letter. First, Melendez from the movie “Marathon Man”: “Blow it out your ass, motherf—er!”. Or maybe Dr. Detroit from the movie of the same name: “…I am going to rip off your head and sh-t down your neck.”

More seriously, threats against Carl won’t silence him. Furthermore, even (God forbid) successful attempts to silence Carl won’t silence this website. This website will be like the Lernaean Hydra: cut one head off and two more will grow from it. Furthermore, like the Lernaean Hydra, our breath (i.e., written words) will grow even more toxic.

The dumbshits that left this letter don’t seem to understand this. They have given new life to an old (and somewhat forgotten issue) from last year’s election. As Forrest Gump from the movie of the same name said: “Stupid is as stupid does.”

  3. Carl I would hope that lawenforcement would take this serious. I guess time will tell. The bozo that dropped off that letter dosent know to you good. Hang tuff CARL THEY LOVE TO INTIMIDATE.

  4. Wildwitch says:

Really, really….this is so ridiculous. Did you remove the envelope with a glove? This is such a joke, you really expect anyone to believe that that threat was real.

  5. baba says:

I doubt this letter was from the Demo’s . You should put up a camera on your front porch but aim it down toward the ground. This is how you will catch any really short perps.

  6. Vernon Dudley says:

Is there anything you wont do for attention? I thought the begging for people to pay your legal expenses was as low as you could go.

  7. Guess-Who says:

More of the Blah Blah Blah VERNON!!!

    Here is an Idea for U go _ _ _ _ yourself!!!

Blaming the currently elected dems for failing to speak out about this is a stretch at best. To come out and say that they know who is writing these notes is a bit over-dramatic and irresponsible writing.

I believe that it’s a local idiot that’s doing this and need to be taken care of.

Don’t get it wrong, I support this site for the informational pieces it delivers but perhaps you should look at this from a different angle. Take a step back and reconsider the situation. I can understand your frustration from receiving such a note and can only wonder what it;s like to go home every day wondering what’s coming next, but don’t let that cloud your ability to be objective.

  9. Vernon Dudley says:

Lol Carl. Very nice response. Have you figured out why you are look upon as a joke?

  10. WuLi says:

The fact that I have received two threats on paper, and one via my cell phone (unlisted number) and the fact that the writer purports to be a Dem, or working on behalf of them, they do have a responsibility to disavow any involvement.

The very least they should do is publicly chastise whoever this anonymous coward is that has trespassed onto my property at least two times, and continues to harass and issue threats.

By remaining silent, they are condoning these actions. It is called a sin of omission in religious channels.

  11. john q public says:

So let me get this straight, your taking the word of a person who calls anonymously and makes death threats? While I’d take the threats seriously on the face value, I still would doubt the accuracy of any facts they supply. I feel for your situation, I would think twice about pointing the finger at the elected dems. (even if the caller claims to support them)

I’d also have thought twice about making the exact contents of the letter public knowledge. Keeping the specific wording under wraps between you and the police may have been beneficial to the investigation.

  12. WuLi says:

@ JQP – you are acting as if there is a real investigation. The local PD is not equipped to handle an investigation like this, they are good merely for taking reports of the incidents.

Whether or not the writer(s) of the threats are working on behalf of the party, the fact that they are going out of their way to trespass and violate federal law gives them some credence that they intend to act on their threats.

I would expect any honest person to publicly distance themselves from these tactics. Silence is approval – or in the words of Dante, “‘The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who in time of moral crisis preserve their neutrality.”

  13. Calhoun says:

    Carl makes good points.

First, to those who like to visit Carl’s residence on Sassafras Street. It’s OK to sneak up on this property, if you’re dropping off bottles off whisky; it’s not OK to do this, if you’re dropping off threatening letters. That’s not hypocrisy, but rather common sense.

The one thing about this whole Marcus-gate mess that gnaws at me is the involvement of Doug Long’s firm in all of it. It was Long’s firm that represented Mr. Wilson and this greatly troubles me because it makes this whole episode look like political payback.

Mr. Wilson has every right in our free country to sue Carl if he thinks Carl has somehow injured him. However, the retention by Wilson of Long’s firm makes the whole thing stink of politics at its worst. And, as Carl noted, the silence of CountyD bigwigs on the recent letters is deafening.

Whelan went out of his way to sing the praises of Lou in public, even when his defenders would tell you privately that he was aware of the problems. Yet, here we have threats being made to Carl all in the name of protecting Mr. Wilson’s reputation and no D is anywhere to be found.

Furthermore, where are the media? I rather suspect that if Joe Six Pack had threats dropped off at their residence and went to the local print media (i.e, Daily Journal, Cumberland News, AC Press) they would pick it up in a heartbeat. After all, stories like this sell. Look at how popular the recent story was regarding the violence that erupted at the Bridgeton 7-11 at 3:00 AM when they ran out of sausages. Yet Carl is threatened and there is no interest at all.

7-11 runs out of sausages in the dead of night — newsworthy. Noteworthy citizen is threatened and there are potential political aspects to the threat — not newsworthy. And the dopes at the newspapers wonder why we don’t subscribe anymore.

  14. WuLi says:

Vertnon, have you figured out why you haven’t learned proper grammar?

  15. Guess-Who says:

L{.}{.}K the Website is still Operating 🙂
along with the (Contributor[s]) that are Here as well.

    Vern, r U clueless? 🙂
Make sure U tell the other dumb _ _ _ _s what was SAID!!!

  16. baba says:

The answer is staring you in the face. Go to the next Freeholder meeting and stand up and say ” I have received these threats from someone claiming to be affiliated with you, is it true?”

  17. Christopher Boss says:

If that guy is such a tuff ass and he wasted his time to come to your house why didn’t he do something about it then. He is a coward and a typical liberal…..All bark no bite he nees to just shut his mouth and stop making his party look like even bigger cowards then they already are. How can someone who belongs to a party that refuses to hold people accountable spend his spare time working on accountability? Sounds like he is a Conservative and doesn’t even know it….lmao IDIOT

  18. baba says:

My guess is a diminutive Conservative was involved and, yes, he is a coward too.

  19. baba says:

I would hate to find out that MW was being manipulated by the vertically challenged in cooperation with the R’s. That would be almost as repugnant as taking the advice of a short x public employee on how to run the county. Does anyone else remember why this site was formed? Does anyone remember who started the ball rolling? Get back to your roots before it’s too late.
