Bob Austino thumbs his nose at Cumberland County Taxpayers

Audacity and greed!

Bob Austino, top law enforcement in the county, should step down immediately. He is a liar, and a fraud. Oh, and I mention he is also GREEDY! He campaigned on a PROMISE to work at a reduced salary, after all, he also receives a very healthy pension paid for in full by taxpayers. A man is only as good as his word. How can this county trust the top law enforcement position to a man that is unashamedly unethical?

“There’s no reason to be making that much.”

In 2008, when campaigning for a first term as sheriff, Austino joined fellow Democrats in saying salaries for the top two positions in the county sheriff’s and surrogate’s offices were too high.“There’s no reason to be making that much,” Austino said in 2008. “Myself, I already have a pension. And nothing turns off people about government more than to see things like that happening.

The median household income in Cumberland County is less than $49,000. Families are struggling as Austino’s Democrats are endorsing a property tax increase this year. Austino brings in $53,745.24 annually with his pension. And now he is giving himself a $32,250 a year PAY INCREASE! Bob Austino will be grossing just a sawbuck shy of $161,000 per year, all on the backs of struggling taxpayers. And he doesn’t even feel a need to apologize.” See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” Bill Whelan knew about this in advance, but in his usual manner felt no need to alert the taxpayers.

How strange, when he was campaigning the extra amount was taxpayers money and he was going to stop the waste of our taxes. Now he says the additional $32,250 he’ll receive should not have much of an impact on his department’s budget. “Some of this money is through the state,” he said. How come he did not mention that when he was campaigning?
Obviously he fooled the voters last year and apparently does not intend to run for a third term. It is also interesting that he requested this increase only two months into his term, on March 1st, but it has taken two more months for the announcement to be made. I heard about this two months ago but the lid was kept on tight. Unbelievable, the man is greedy and he has no shame

@Anon, I had heard rumors of it a couple months ago but was unable to get confirmation. Once again the CCDO machine is in full swing ensuring that Cumberland voters are kept in the dark!

It’s not the first lie. Don’t forget how he promised to eliminate the position of Chief at the sheriff’s Office to save money when he was campaigning for his first term. (Bridgeton news, Oct. 31 2008, look it up)

Not only did he bring in his own Chief, but also brought in ANOTHER Under-Sheriff at a salary that is probably higher than the Chief’s….

    Isn’t that what’s called “lying”?

What gets me is the fact that the Sheriff’s Office has very strict rules for their Officers in regards to honesty. One would think that they would be held accountable for their actions by those same rules…..

    Nope, guess not….
